What's in the kit?

More than you might think!

First - the motor itself

The motor replaces the bottom bracket, and comes complete with a chainring featuring either 44, 46 or 48 teeth. With the extra power provided by the motor, you don't need smaller chainrings or a front derailleur any more.

Next - the battery

A 17.5Ah unit has 34% more capacity than you'll find on a factory E-Bike costing £3500. Lockable onto the bike and removable for charging. You can even charge your phone directly from it. A mains charger is included.

Brake levers and cranks

Cranks need to be specific to fit onto the new bottom bracket. Brake levers are just for bikes with V-brakes. (For bikes with disk brakes, it's better to not fit brake sensors as they can introduce unnecessary fault signals).

Display, controller and headlight

The standard display is the SW02 (seen here). A headlight is also included, powered from the main battery and switchable from the controller.

Upgrades

The custom nature of our installations means that almost any component can be upgraded. These are some of the most frequently fitted - the display, gearshift sensor and battery upgrades are inexpensive and highly recommended.

Display

The P850C display has many advantages over the standard SW02 (other display options are also available, although we believe the P850C to be the sweet spot of cost vs function):

Cost

+£20 installed.

Huge additional functionality

The P850C is full colour, and has battery remaining/accurate voltage display, max/avg speed, trip distance & time, odometer, 5 or 9 power assistance modes (switchable), auto-switching headlight function and adjustable speed limit settings.

USB out

The USB output port means you can charge your phone, your lights, or indeed anything else USB powered!

Gearshift sensor

An essential upgrade on 750W kits and highly desirable on 250W kits.

Cost

+£25 installed.

Smooth shifting

The gearshift sensor detects when you're changing gear and briefly cuts power to the motor, enabling shifting to happen seamlessly. Without it, shifting up the cassette into easier gears is perilous to say the least!

Increased reliability

The smoother shifting enabled by the gearshift sensor will extend the life of your drivetrain - and in particular your chain, which can leave you stranded if it snaps. Chains need particular care on an ebike conversion due to the extra power they are transmitting, and this is step 1.

48V 20Ah battery incl. Airtag GPS tracker

If you want to use more of the power, more of the time - this is a no brainer (for 750W kits only).

Cost

+£45 installed.

Extra performance

Like the 17.5Ah unit, this battery uses LG/Samsung cells - however unlike the 17.5Ah battery, the 20Ah unit has 5000mAh (vs 3500mAh) cells, meaning, in simple terms, each cell contains more power. The total capacity is a whopping 960Wh (vs 860Wh for the 17.5Ah unit).

GPS tracked security

With an Apple Airtag stowed in the battery mounting plate, you can track your bike any time - with no subscription fees. For peace of mind and an incredibly effective extra layer of security, this upgrade comes highly recommended.

BBSHD 1000W motor

The next step up from The Beast... welcome to The Legend.

Cost

+£195 installed (on top of 'Beast' specification).

Power

Whilst 750W units can put out over 1000W in practice, the BBSHD can be pushed far harder. A better comparison is the current each motor can safely draw. A BBS02 750W unit is safely capped at 21A to avoid damaging the controller, whereas the BBSHD can easily run at 30A or more - almost 50% more effective power (and torque).

Reliability

Best specced in 48V form (rather than 52V), the BBSHD will pull 30A through the controller all day long, every day, till you're old and grey. They are almost indestructible. The only downside over the BBS02 is a little extra weight (about 1kg) and slightly greater width. Also worth bearing in mind the BBSHD comfortably exceeds the UK road legal limit for bikes of 250W!
